Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education member Kathy Wisnicki said this week her decision not to run for a second term came after several months of contemplation.
She said her choice not to run was for several reasons, including personal ones and that she feels she could not win.
Wisnicki will remain visible on the political scene once her term ends in December. She is on the Parks and Recreation Commission and the blue ribbon committee making a recommendation on whether the city should purchase a 9.2-acre property on Pacific Coast Highway off Heathercliff Road.
She also plans to be involved in the effort to get the county to conduct a feasibility study on whether a Malibu school district could be created.
Wisnicki was unsuccessful in a bid for City Council in April, placing fourth in the election for three seats. She said she has not decided if she will run in 2010.
