The City of Malibu has released some information on ways residents can help support and alleviate the tragedy caused by recent hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Hurricane Harvey has affected many communities in Texas while Hurricane Irma has affected communities in the Caribbean, Florida and other southeastern states.

Relief organizations involved in hurricane response and recovery, specifically in Irma’s case, are the American Red Cross (redcross.org), Salvation Army (salvationarmyflorida.org), United Way (unitedway.org/hurricane-irma) and National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (nvoad.org). Malibuites may also donate via recognized charities or their faith-based organizations; however, they are discouraged from responding to direct requests for donations to avoid scams. People can verify the legitimacy of any organization before donating by visiting guidestar.org or charitynavigator.org.

Those interested in supporting communities affected by Hurricane Harvey can consider donating to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, established by the city of Houston and Harris County. The fund is currently accepting tax-deductible flood relief donations. For more information or to contribute, visit ghcf.org/hurricane-relief.
