Schools throughout the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District are taking part in the annual “Bike It! Walk It!” week, which encourages students to get to school by leaving the car at home and using alternative modes of transportation. Last year, about 30 percent of district students at 14 schools participated in the event, according to the school district. Malibu schools participating in the annual event include Juan Cabrillo Elementary and Malibu High School, both taking part on May 10.
