We asked Malibu locals, “What’s your opinion on the six-year-old who received a two-day suspension for kissing a female classmate’s hand in Colorado?” Find out their answers in our slideshow at left.
“I think it’s terrible that a child should be suspended for kissing a girl’s hand. A kid should be taught to love, not to hate. He shouldn’t be suspended for something like that. It was an act of kindness, that’s ridiculous.”
“First I’d say, that I would be very upset if it were my six-year-old that had been suspended for two days for something that seems so innocent, but at the same time, if I was warned, or at least my son, and we knew ahead of time that this behavior was unwelcome by the school, I can understand their perspective as well.”
“How can kindness and sweetness be configured into something that’s wrong. Kindness is now harassment? How sad is that.”
“I would be mad if a boy kissed me! I don’t know if I’d tell on him though.”
“It’s very controversial. We used to allow kissing on the hand but now the rule is no kissing at school. It has to do with sanitation, germs and it has to do with people’s beliefs and the worry that it could be taken the wrong way. If they do kiss, we just remind them kissing isn’t okay at school… It’s complicated.”
