Board of Education members are continuing the process of allocating $385 million in funds from the 2012 voter-approved Measure ES in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD).
Background on upgrading facilities and technology projects will be provided during Thursday’s Board meeting and a vote to approve projects could happen as soon as March 5.
A bulk of the funds could be used at Santa Monica High School, where officials estimate around $180 million necessary for facility upgrades that could take over a decade to complete, according to the district.
An advisory committee will be formed to establish disbursement of 20 percent of the funds (around $77 million) to Malibu schools.
Around $34 million was approved in October for the beginning phase of technology improvements, with roughly $93 million left in undesignated Measure ES funds.
Considerations for the extra funds includes previously designed changes at elementary campuses, air quality issues, programming and a day treatment center for students with special education needs.
The board also expects to hire a bond program manager before the end of the fiscal year.
