Peace at the beach

I am writing to set the record straight in response to a June 29th article where the L.A. Times incorrectly reported a beach dispute. I was at Little Dume beach that day from 11 to 4 and Ms. Buhl, an “independent photographer,” who was there carrying a big bulky sign and, I felt, was looking for a confrontation, instead was either totally ignored by the families enjoying the beach or, in my case, was simply smiled at. Ms. Buhl was aware that press would be at the beach that day following the surfer versus paparazzi confrontation earlier that week and was sadly trying to generate some more controversy and confrontation.

Isn’t our world filled with enough confrontation? It was a beautiful day and we were all blessed to enjoy one nearly perfect day at the beach together. As mayor of Malibu, I was so proud of the citizens and visitors peacefully enjoying the day with their families and friends. I hope Ms. Buhl realizes she and all people are always welcome to peacefully enjoy the beautiful beaches and ocean in Malibu, which, we all know, are owned by no one and belong to everyone.
