On Wednesday, I attended the Santa Monica SMMUSD BOE candidate forum put on by the Santa Monica Daily Press which was much longer then the one-hour forum allowed in Malibu at 11 a.m. on a Monday.
The following yes-no question was asked of the candidates: Would you favor changing the SMMUSD bylaws and other necessary documents so that a Malibu resident would be a BOE member? Chris Bley and Maria Leon-Vazquez said “yes” and Jose Escarce said “no”. Ben Allen referred to it as a legal issue. I believe if there is a will, there is a way.
I would also like to mention that Maria and Chris have a sound Special Education background which is much needed, especially in Santa Monica. I recommend you all vote for Maria-Leon-Vazquea and Chris Bley as well as Ben Allen because the BOE needs new blood and leadership.
