The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station will conduct a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint in Malibu Friday between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., according to a press release from the sheriff’s station.
“Over the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed numerous lives and resulted in injury crashes harming many of our friends and neighbors,” the release states.
A DUI arrest costs offenders more than $10,000, jail time and the loss of driving privileges. In terms of overall vehicle fatalities, 31 percent of deaths are caused by a drunk driver.
“DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as bring awareness to our community of the dangers of impaired driving.”
