Pepperdine University swim team members Shannon Adkins, Sarah Burris and Stephanie Ertl made the cut to advance to the next step in becoming Los Angeles County lifeguards after efficiently completing a 1,000 meter ocean swim at a competition Oct. 13. The trio will now move on to the interview stage in the process, which is followed by a two-month intensive training course. The first of the three to finish was Adkins, who came in 18th overall out of 350 participants.
“It’s an incredible accomplishment that all three girls made the cut,” swim team head coach Nick Rodionoff said. “We have had several past swimmers become L.A. county guards, but this is the first time we have had three, not to mention one very recent graduate, make it at one time. It’s very exciting.”
