Malibu Green Machine founder and President Jo Giese is one of the storytellers.

Tales by the Sea, storytelling for adults will hold its second Home Concert for the Winter 2008 season on Feb. 23.

“I like this series to be stimulating as well as entertaining,” said show producer Ann Buxie. “Each time I include tellers who address profound moment s in their lives.”

Called “Heroes, Loves and Other Primal Matters,” the concert features seven tellers performing in a private home, with a stage and sound system.

The concert captures a wide range of cultural experiences: Ellen Switkes tells “Sex Education,” a funny story about sexuality; Ellaraino, an African-American, tells “The Fan,” in which she describes visiting her grandmother, who learned to read at 85, and lived to be 116; Padraic Keohane takes the audience on a wild ride in “My First Date.” With “The Last Human on Earth,” Vicki Juditz shares her zany perspective on a visit to the grocery store; Joe Harrington, a Western teller, shares a hero-discovery moment in “Ridin’ With Big Red;” Lupe Placencia, a Latina, tells about becoming a citizen in “Era to Era”; and Jo Giese, a radio journalist, premiers a wacky, erotic story from her upcoming collection “Fumbling Towards Ecstasy.”

A light dinner will follow the concert. The event has a suggested $10 donation. Guests should arrive at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Call 310.457.2385 to make reservations and get directions.
