Lesson in kindness

About 14 months ago I acquired an infection. Over the course of 2002, these little buggies fed on my right ankle and many vertebrae in my back. After seeing many doctors, I met Dr. John Hertz, a Point Dume resident whose daughter attends Pt. Dume Elementary School.

During my first visit with Dr. Hertz, he diagnosed my condition and saved my life. Another type of help was expressed by many of my daughter’s classmates and their parents. For well over four months, many families from Pt. Dume Elementary School brought dinner meals to my family in our time of crisis.

I will never be able to express my gratitude to the people that organized and contributed to this act of kindness. Our neighborhood school brings people together that probably would never have a chance to meet. In being a part of the P.T.A., I never expected to receive a outpouring of love that these meals represented . The public schools are a wonderful part of the Malibu Way of Life. Like most lessons in life I did not understand the value of the public school experience, as a parent, until the waters got rough.
