Give 'em a break

On Monday afternoon I was waiting in front of Malibu High School to pick up my daughter early to take her to an appointment. I was waiting at the curb in the "green zone" with other cars parked along the same curb. I looked down the street and at 2 p.m. I noticed a sheriff writing tickets for the cars parked along the green curb. I looked at the street sign which indicated parking until 2 p.m., with "loading only" starting at 2:00. A few minutes later, I saw numerous irate high school students walking and/or running towards their cars. They did not get out of class in time to get to their cars and received a parking ticket. If the students get out of class at 2, they cannot possibly move their cars exactly at 2, but of course the sheriff was out there writing tickets. I understand the policy but, come on, give these poor kids a few minutes to get to their cars. Change the "loading" time to 2:10 to give them a chance to get out of class and to their cars. This would be sensible, fair and yet accomplish the purpose of the loading zone.
