READERS’ POEM

I am

I am a Christian

I am a Jew

I am a Hindu

through and through.

I’ve done leaps and bounds,

tethers to be sewn

lookin’ for the place

before I was born,

born to the sky,

born to the land,

born to be wild

and to understand.

I’ve peered at the people

and the prayers they’ve prayed

put them in my pocket

for a rainy day.

I am a red child

I am a white

I am a song

for the pale moonlight.

I’ve crossed the rivers,

setting with the sun,

the thing I’ve found,

we are here to be one.

One to be silly,

one to be sad,

one to find the treasure

that the last one had.

All the crooks and crannies

counting on the way

here to love the world

stars show me the way.
