Sam Simon, a Malibu resident and co-creator of “The Simpsons,” was honored by North Shore Animal League America at its 2007 Lewyt Haumane Awards luncheon recently held at The Garden City Hotel in Garden City, N.Y. The annual event acknowledges individuals and organizations for their extraordinary efforts on behalf of shelter animals.
A lifelong lover of animals, Simon created the Sam Simon Foundation in 2003. The foundation has mobile clinics providing free spay/neuter services for pets of low-income families and the Assistance Dog Program, which trains animals rescued from shelters to become hearing dogs for the deaf or hard of hearing.
