Letter: Helpful heroes

For the past couple of weeks, we all noticed the true heroes: firefighters who fight the wild fires, or the deputies watching for the safety of Malibu during these tough times. But, we also have “unsung heroes” who are watching out for us and may go unnoticed and unthanked. I will only mention a few. To start with Brad Davis, Emergency Services Coordinator for the City of Malibu, and Maria Grycan, Community Services Representative, Los Angeles County Fire Department – Division VII, Fire Station 70, both in action day and night directing and coordinating our many volunteers in the city.

I would also like to mention Malibu Volunteers on Patrol members, Mark Russo, Tom McGuirk and Lance Anderson. They left their wives, children and homes on the evenings of May 3 and May 4 to patrol late into the early morning hours to look for new fires and report on the “Springs Fire” advancing over the hills into Malibu.

The list can go on and on, with Arson Watch volunteers and the many good people in our great City of Malibu. They are out there helping in every way they can, protecting our beautiful Malibu.
