Mares in jeopardy

There are many natural products on the market today for menopause/premenopause. But for years there has been the unfortunate practice of using mares to produce the menopausal/pre-menopausal drug Premarin. The mares are subjected to lives of continual pregnancy and catheterization.

Now thousands of mares are facing the possibility of slaughter. They are being released from the PMU (Pregnant Mare Urine) industry as a result of company cutbacks and are desperately in need of loving homes. There are currently 80 mares (including 48 mares in foal) available for adoption. The organization sponsoring the adoption will provide free shipping to western areas of the U.S. and Canada, and can arrange free shipping of 20 mares to any city or town if enough people are adopting horses in that area. For more information, please e-mail PMURescue@aol.com or call (541) 826-7829.
