for worse

This arbitrary road closure is causing major backups on Las Virgenes road entering Malibu, and at PCH on roads that already have too much rush hour traffic. I have had to wait for the light to change four times on three different days at Las Virgenes and PCH just attempting to get to Cross Creek shopping center. It’s gotten to the point that I don’t even want to go there at the end of the day. I used to pick up food there and take it home, but now I just pick it up in Calabasas or closer to my office in the valley, rather than endure even more traffic once I finally get home to Malibu.

What may have sounded like a good idea at the time turned out to be a horrendous idea for commuters, shoppers, residents and parents dropping off their kids at school. In all likelihood this road closure will, sooner or later, result in a nightmare of unnecessary, prolonged, response time for police, ambulance or firefighters (or a combination of all three). Trying to answer an urgent emergency call, naturally they seek the quickest distance between two points. That’s why the road is there! To create a traffic shortcut, for a town already overburdened with traffic. Duh! And, it could have a severe and dire impact for anyone at the elementary school, the college or the condo residents who find themselves in need of critically, urgent care.

I side with the person who said “you want to put in a park, look around you, Malibu is one great big park.” What we need more than a park is roads that allow traffic to flow. I know everyone is sick of the traffic situation in Malibu. And with future development planned in the Civic Center area one thing is certain, it’s only going to get worse. City Council, you need to clue in. Quit commandeering our much needed roads and adding to the stress of our daily lives

So let’s recount: It’s bad for Cross Creek businesses who are tax-paying business members of the community. It’s bad for anyone driving anywhere on PCH, near Pepperdine, or headed to Cross Creek, the Civic Center, the elementary school, or the condos. It’s bad for anyone in that area requiring immediate urgent care.

Overall, it’s as annoying as the idea of putting a sewage treatment plant in the center of town. Why would you only have only one access road to the center of town? Why would you have a sewage treatment center in the town’s central square? If you want another park, why not put it there? Which council members came up with these idiotic ideas? Please raise your hands, so we can cast our votes against them in the next election; because, obviously they don’t give a whit about their constituents. If they did they might actually consult with the Malibu voters and tax-payers before making their not-so-bright-ideas a reality. Please get a grip. Find a more suitable spot for sewage treatment and open the road.
