Malibu-fabled throughout the entire world anywhere there are motion picture screens, television sets, newspapers and movie magazines; this high profile, independent Southern California city of 13,000 hugely different souls has its very own embarrassing black eye. As a matter of shame, it’s something one gets to actually “feel” if you’re lucky enough to live in this almost-paradise by the sea.
Remember that kid in Holland who stuffed his finger in the dike to save … I don’t remember. Well, when you count all the fingers that the City of Malibu and the Malibu Bay whatever have all together, wow! The most embarrassing part of this piece is-this so very visible problem – is maybe 50 feet from Malibu Bay’s front door. And, the entrance/exit to their most valuable piece of working real estate, currently, the shopping center that contains, amongst other prodigious companies, Ralphs market.
This embarrassment, our “pothole,” is visibly located on Old Malibu Road, across from the fire station, and just beyond the Malibu Newsstand and the movietone restaurant alley.
If I took my time getting to this part of our shared Malibu shame, think of the many times either our City, or Los Angeles County, put their fingers in “our dike.” Unlike that fairy tale kid, they did no good. But also think of the good PR, Malibu Bay, who has both the know-how and the bucks to finally, correctly repave this pothole eyesore, could have gained. Or is this just another case of the “emperor wore no clothes”?
