Don’t blame us

I was appalled at the irresponsible reporting of the recent vandalism at Malibu High by the Malibu Surfside News. The article showed three pictures of the damage and then went on to quote graffiti “purportedly” written on a wall that had neither been commented upon nor confirmed by the detective handling the case. What kind of reporting is this? When a small, hometown newspaper runs a story on unsubstantiated sensationalism aimed at community members it can only be hurtful to the people involved and serves no beneficial purpose. It also gives the perpetrators more publicity for an abhorrent act. As a Malibuite for more than 40 years, a parent of three teenagers, and a teacher in this community I was disappointed that one of our local newspapers had stooped to tabloid-type reporting.
