This week’s Athlete of the Week is co-captain of the Malibu Little League Champion Phillies Trevor Simonian. In addition to serving as a great leader for the team, he was a skilled hitter, batting third and hitting nearly 500 for the season. Simonian also led the entire league in runs, hits, triples, home runs and RBIs. Due to his achievement as the best power hitter in the league, he will bat as clean-up hitter for the Malibu Majors Traveling All-Stars.
At bat, Simonian is the only player who hit more than one home run out of the park throughout the Malibu Little League for the past two seasons.
On the mound, he had all three wins and a save during the last game of the regular season, helping the Phillies place first. In the field, he played most of the season skillfully at shortstop.
The hard-working athlete takes each game seriously. He is one of a small number of players in the history of Malibu Little League to be a starter and key contributor for two consecutive Majors Championship teams.
Last week, Simonian and the Phillies competed in the Little League Tournament of Champions, where he led the team with a .500 batting average and impressive defensive play at shortstop.
The game prompted the umpire to tell Simonian, “I think I am going to be watching you play baseball on TV in 10 years.”
Simonian participates in numerous other athletic activities as well. He earned a black belt in karate, was a key member of Oaks Christian’s undefeated sixth grade basketball team, and helped lead his undefeated Westlake Braves football team to the GCYFL Super Bowl last season.
Simonian is a sixth grader at Oaks Christian School. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, he also received the school’s “Outstanding Student” award in science.
