Malibu-raised model was a member of the local school’s honor roll and spoke publicly about mental health and addiction
Presley Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and Malibu businessman Rande Gerber, died Sunday, Sept. 20. He was 27. Gerber died at a rehabilitation facility, according to online records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. A cause of death has not been released, and an autopsy is pending. Allie Jenkins, a representative for Crawford, Rande Gerber and their daughter, Kaia Gerber, confirmed his death. The family has asked for privacy during what it described as a very difficult and painful time. Gerber was raised in Malibu and graduated from Malibu High School. He and his younger sister, Kaia, attended the local public school while beginning their modeling careers as teenagers.
The Gerber family has maintained deep personal and business ties to Malibu. Rande Gerber continues to own Café Habana Malibu, the popular restaurant in the Malibu Lumber Yard. The family has also maintained a longtime home in the community, where Presley spent much of his childhood and later lived as an adult.
Born July 2, 1999, Presley was the eldest child and only son of Crawford and Rande Gerber. He entered the modeling industry as a teenager, signing with IMG Models at age 15. He later appeared in advertising campaigns, fashion editorials and runway shows for internationally recognized brands, including Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana and Moschino. Gerber also appeared with his mother in a Pepsi commercial broadcast during the 2018 Super Bowl, recreating elements of Crawford’s iconic 1992 commercial for the company. In recent years, Gerber spoke publicly about his experiences with depression, mental health and substance use. During a 2023 appearance on the “Studio 22” podcast, he discussed his desire to use his experiences to help others facing similar challenges.
He later launched a social media series called “Mental Health Mondays,” encouraging more open conversations about depression, addiction and the challenges facing young men. In his posts, Gerber emphasized the importance of seeking help and speaking honestly about personal struggles.
Before entering the hospitality industry, Rande Gerber also worked as a model. He later founded Gerber Group and co-founded Casamigos tequila with actor George Clooney and businessman Mike Meldman. Crawford became one of the most recognized supermodels of the 1980s and 1990s and has remained active in fashion and business.
Presley’s sister, Kaia, followed her mother into modeling and has also pursued an acting career. The siblings frequently appeared together at fashion events and in family photographs shared publicly over the years.
Gerber is survived by his parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, and his sister, Kaia Gerber.
