The seventh annual Malibu International Film Festival will take place April 7-10 in Malibu and Santa Monica.

The festival will include five feature, 20 short and five documentary films. Also, there will be an opening night fashion show and a closing ceremony that will include a “surprise A-list celebrity.”

The opening night will feature the screening of “Rising Son: The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi,” directed by Cesario Montano, and a party and fashion show. The screening will take place at the Aero Theater, located at 1328 Montana Ave. in Santa Monica, and the party will take place at The Victorian, 2640 Main St. in Santa Monica.

Screenings at the Aero Theater will continue throughout the festival. Other screenings will also take place at a temporary theater in Malibu called Jaguar Theater. A black tent is being set up in the parking lot of the Malibu Creek Plaza to house the temporary theater.

Each theater will screen its centerpiece films simultaneously at 7:30 p.m. on April 8. The centerpiece Malibu film will be “Chasing Dora,” directed by Wes Brown. The one in Santa Monica will be “The O in Ohio,” directed by Billy Kent and starring Danny Devito, Parker Posey and Mischa Barton.

The closing night film being shown at 7:30 p.m. on April 9 at the Aero Theater will be “The Proposition,” directed by John Hillcoat.

The festival will conclude on April 10 with the IndieVest Awards Night Reception and dinner party at Gladstone’s Malibu, located at 17300 Pacific Coast Highway. Included with the festivities will be a KCRW DJ and a live performance by The Toledo Show, a cabaret funk band

This night will honor the award-winning films and filmmakers of the 2006 festival and an A-list celebrity whose name has not been announced.

The festival will award cash and prizes valued up to $5,000 to the award-winning filmmakers.
