Former Pepperdine University golfer Katherine Hull overcame a six-stroke deficit on Sunday to post her first win on the LPGA Tour. She shot an 11-under 277, including a 3-under 69 on the final day, to win the Canadian Open in Ottawa.
This is something we all dream about as kids and to have it actually happen is amazing,” Hull told the Associated Press. “I was thinking this might be the year I broke through and got a win, but at six shots back, I didn’t think much about it. I just tried to play the best I could. I honestly didn’t expect to win at all. But that’s how golf goes. It’s four rounds, 72 holes and anything can happen.”
Hull had finished second behind Meena Lee in the 2005 tournament at Glen Arbour in Nova Scotia for her best previous LPGA Tour finish. She earned $337,500 for winning this time.
Hull was named National Player of the Year her senior year at Pepperdine in 2003. She was a three-time All-American and a four-time all-conference selection.
