Supreme Court extends deadline on LCP issue

The state Supreme Court has extended its deadline to grant or deny the city of Malibu’s petition for review in its case against the California Coastal Commission. The city filed the petition on Oct. 1, and the court had 60 days to respond. But the court is allowed to put an extension on its deadline. The city is battling the Coastal Commission to gain the right to have its residents vote on a Local Coastal Program document drafted by the commission. A Superior Court judge and the California Court of Appeal have ruled that the residents do not have the right to vote on the document.

Malibu author to make appearance

Malibu resident Leslie Klinger will be at Diesel, A Bookstore on Saturday to sign his new book, “The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes.” Klinger will be there at 4 p.m. The bookstore is located at 3890 Cross Creek Road.

Britney goes to school

According to TeenHollywood.com, pop star Britney Spears has enrolled at Pepperdine University. The 23-year-old newlywed recently bought a home in Serra Retreat. According to Teen Hollywood, a source told the Web site that Spears is intent on having different employment options for when her pop stardom fades and that she is tired of seeing her face splashed across newspaper and magazine covers.

Newton-John on

the move

Singer/actress Olivia Newton-John has purchased a Malibu house for nearly $6 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. Additionally, she has put her other Malibu home on the market for $6.5 million.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the house that Newton-John bought is 6,500 square feet and has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Firefighters needed

The Los Angeles County Fire Department is looking for people to join its ranks. The official Fire Fighter Trainee examination bulletin and employment application has been posted online by the county at www.lacofd.org. Applications will only be accepted from Dec. 2-4 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at six locations throughout the county. The locations are listed on the Web site.

Minimum requirements for the position include possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and a valid California driver’s license. Candidates must also meet vision, hearing, weight and height requirements. Additionally, they must be American citizens or permanent resident aliens who have applied for citizenship, 18 years of age at the time of appointment, free from felony convictions and have good moral character.

City Hall holiday closures

City Hall will be closed on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26 in observance of Thanksgiving.
