On Sunday at Malibu Bluffs Park, Safety Harbor Kids, a local nonprofit, will host the Malibu Community Picnic and Concert by the Sea to benefit orphans and homeless children. Supporting their Music and the Arts Program, and the 11th event they have given, the Malibu picnic and concert has attracted numerous music, television and film industry professionals including two-time Emmy winner Jeremy Piven and other members of HBO’s hit series “Entourage.”

The picnic portion of the day will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the concert takes place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The public is welcome and can take part in “happiness counseling” with the “Laughing Yogi,” thoughts from internationally acclaimed motivational speaker, Art Mortell, followed by a piano concerto by World Amateur Champion Zack Mathe, age 12. In the afternoon, the children can participate in acrylic art, woodcrafts, creative dramatics, music lessons and games, including face painting, kite flying, pie eating and more.

Schedule for children’s entertainment are a performance by Boo Boo Stewart (formerly of Disney’s T-Squad) and creative dance with child prodigy Hannah Schneider of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy (Julie Andrew’s granddaughter).

The evening will feature a benefit concert with a live performance by Inara George of the Bird and the Bee, followed by a guitar duet with the renowned Fred Tackett and Paul Barrere of Little Feat.

The evening’s last performance will be by Andy Vargas, lead singer for Carlos Santana and Jeremy Piven.

The concert’s proceeds “benefit orphans and homeless children who do not have the opportunity in life to do the things the rest of us take for granted,” Petri Alexandra, Safety Harbor’s co-founder and president said.

Safety Harbor Kids is a local Malibu nonprofit charity and serves children “from ages seven to 17,” Alexandra said.

“We are bringing them to job opportunities, mentors, internships, and scholarship funds. We are providing tools with the opportunity to help and personally see the difference.”

The cost concert fundraiser is $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
