The Malibu Times writer ties the knot

The Malibu Times writer Homaira Shifa wed pilot Jahan Zeib Hamid May 26 at the Malibu West Beach Club. Shifa wore her mother’s wedding dress, and the event featured a mix of the backgrounds and traditions of both families’ cultures.

The couple met in August 2011 at Cheviot Hills Park and got engaged soon after on November 26.

Shifa, whose family migrated to the U.S. from Afghanistan in 1981, was born in Atlanta and moved to Los Angeles when she was one year old. She received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s in mass communications from California State University, Northridge. She has been writing for The Malibu Times since 2010. Shifa says she has been dreaming of getting married in Malibu ever since she began working for The Malibu Times.

Hamid was born and raised in Norway and moved to the U.S. in 1998 to pursue a career in aviation. His family is originally from Pakistan and moved to Norway in the 1970s. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in professional aeronautics and an airline transport pilot certificate. He worked as a flight instructor on the east coast before moving to Los Angeles to work for Chrysler Aviation.
