Pepperdine soccer continues perfect season

The Pepperdine University women’s soccer team increased its record to 5-0-0 Sunday with a 3-2 victory over Kansas at Torero Stadium in San Diego. The Waves are ranked 12th in the nation and off to their best start in the soccer team’s history.

Kansas scored first with a goal at the 24:37 mark. Pepperdine then tied the game at the 36:25 mark on a goal from 20 yards out by freshman midfielder Kelsey Quane. It was the first goal of her career.

Quane scored another goal at the 64:59 mark from 28 yards out to put Pepperdine in the lead. Then Kansas tied the game at the 78:28 mark. Senior forward Megan Woods broke the 2-2 tie with a goal in the 84th minute.

The women play again on Friday against Texas Christian in Fort Worth, Texas.

Pepperdine men’s XC wins San Diego meet

The Pepperdine University men’s cross country team took first place at the USD Cross Country Invitational in San Diego on Saturday, with three Wave runners placing among the top eight in the eight-kilometer race. Senior Chad Trammell finished first with a time of 26 minutes, 51 seconds. Freshman Timothy Hatters placed fourth (27:57) and sophomore Matt Jenks came in eighth (28:35).

The Pepperdine women’s cross country team placed third in the competition behind Duke and Point Luma. Sophomore Lauren Morales was the fastest Wave individual in the six-kilometer race, finishing 15th with a time of 24:34. Freshman Brieanna Carroll placed 18th (24:45) and Courtney Smith finished 20th (25:19).

Waves water polo wins after trailing

The fifth-ranked Pepperdine University men’s water polo team came back from a 4-0 second quarter deficit to defeat No. 9 Loyola Marymount, 8-6, on Saturday. The win increases Pepperdine’s record to 4-0.

The Waves did not get on the board until sophomore Matt Digges scored a goal with 5:35 remaining in the second quarter. Loyola Marymount went into halftime with a 5-3 lead. Pepperdine evened the game at six goals a piece before the end of the third quarter.

The Waves took the lead with 3:34 remaining in the game on a goal by senior Jesse Smith. Sophomore Adam Hewko increased the lead with a goal a little more than a minute later.

The Waves compete again this weekend in the SoCal Tournament in Irvine.
