Actress Jane Seymour shares her design secrets.

Malibu mom/actress/entrepreneur/painter and author Jane Seymour is serious when it comes to style. Although she’s still active in front of the camera, one of Seymour’s biggest loves is making life beautiful. Her latest book is called “Making Yourself at Home” and is full of tricks and tips that will help the design-challenged discover their own sense of style.
Seymour says her book is different from the usual at-home, how-to books on the market. Instead of investing a small fortune on a complete makeover with all new home furnishings and pricey materials, the author encourages her audience to work with what they already have. She says budding home decorators should “take risks, have fun, discover beauty and turn their homes into havens of peace, joy and serenity.”
The book also contains intimate and personal anecdotes about Seymour’s own life, examples of how she’s overcome adversity and the important role of family. After spending years hard at work renovating St. Catherine’s Court, her stately 14th-century estate in Bath, England, and decorating her family home in Malibu, Seymour knows a thing or two about the art of living. She also has her own line of bed linens, bath towels, china and accessories inspired by her life in the English countryside as well as her oceanfront beach house in Malibu, which she shares with husband James Keach and their children. With ideas all around, she designs everything from hand-painted purses to fluffy down pillows.
In “Making Yourself at Home,” the multiple Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actress shares her stories and provides a practical perspective on home decorating that is both “encouraging and inspirational.” Seymour is proving to be a prolific author. She has already penned several children’s books as well as her “Guide to Romantic Living” and “Remarkable Changes.”
On May 16, at 7 p.m., the actress celebrates her new publication with a book reading and signing at Diesel, A Bookstore located at 3890 Cross Creek Rd. More information can be obtained by calling 310.456.9961.
