Malibu High School juniors James Gordon, Serena Seaman and Andrew Yazdani trekked to Washington, D.C. for an Anti-Defamation League trip Nov. 14-17.
The Malibu students traveled to the capital with seven other students, where they joined 106 student delegates to ADL’s 14th annual Grosfeld Family National Youth Leadership Mission at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
At the museum, the students learned about World War II and examined contemporary issues of extremism, bigotry and genocide. They also heard from Holocaust survivors and war veterans. The program was intended to teach the delegates leadership skills so they could return to their schools and communities with resources to combat bias and bigotry.
During breakout sessions conducted by facilitators at the ADL’s A World of Difference Institute, students shared personal experiences with bullying and discrimination. They then discussed how the lessons of the Holocaust can be applied today and to their own lives.
The students also took in the 17th Annual ADL Concert Against Hate at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, featuring a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra.
