Overnight lane closures planned on Topanga Canyon Boulevard for guardrail work
By The Malibu Times · Thu Aug 20 2026
Motorists should expect overnight delays Aug. 24-29 along Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 as Caltrans continues guardrail work between Pacific Coast Highway and Entrado Drive. Crews are scheduled to conduct overnight lane closures from Monday night, Aug. 24, through Saturday morning, Aug. 29, between Entrado Drive and State Route 1/Pacific Coast Highway in the unincorporated community of Topanga.
Work is expected to take place nightly from as early as 10 p.m. until as late as 6 a.m.
During construction hours, one lane of Topanga Canyon Boulevard will remain open and will be shared by traffic traveling in both directions. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zones using alternating one-way traffic control.
According to Caltrans, the locations of the lane restrictions may shift throughout each night as crews progress with the guardrail work. Signs will be posted to alert drivers approaching the affected areas from both directions.
Motorists should anticipate delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible during construction hours. Residents and businesses near the highway may also experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with the overnight work.
The closures are weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.
The guardrail work is part of Caltrans' larger State Route 27 pavement rehabilitation project, which encompasses more than 18 miles of Topanga Canyon Boulevard from Pacific Coast Highway north to Devonshire Street in Chatsworth.
In addition to repaving the highway, the project includes upgrades to curb ramps, pedestrian push buttons and bus pads along the corridor. Work through the San Fernando Valley portion of the project has already been completed, while construction continues through Topanga.
The entire SR-27 rehabilitation project is currently expected to be completed in summer 2027.
