Malibu High eighth-grader Jaime Le is hosting a barbecue and bazaar on Sunday to raise funds for the nonprofit organization Made in the Streets (MITS), a ministry that aids children in need in Nairobi, Kenya. The free barbecue and bazaar will feature items made by the impoverished children at MITS, and donations for MITS will be accepted.
Le was inspired to raise funds for the children at MITS after visiting Kenya over the summer with his family and youth group to work with the nonprofit organization. He got to see first hand the conditions many children live in and decided to find a way to help.
Each year, MITS staff take the children on a trip around Christmastime. Many of the children do not have homes to return to, or live in unsafe areas that require assistance to get to. Additionally, MITS works to provide food and clothing for the children as well. Le hopes to raise $4,000 to help MITS with these expenses and aid the children in need in Kenya.
The fundraising event takes place Sept. 30 at Baxter Drive Park at Pepperdine University, 24255 PCH, at 12:30 p.m. For more information, or to RSVP, contact Le’s parents at hung.le@pepperdine.edu or corinne.le@pepperdine.edu.
