Secondhand sale

The Artifac Tree has been Malibu’s local thrift store since 1973, and uses profits from the sales of donated and new goods to assist those in need and to contribute funds to community programs. Located at 3728 1/2 Cross Creek Rd., it will be having a half price sale from Dec. 8 through Dec. 12. The funds will benefit the many causes the thrift shop supports.

The Artifac Tree will be closed from Dec. 22 through Jan. 2.

SMMUSD Financial Oversight Committee Accepting Applications

There are currently three vacancies on the SMMUSD Financial Oversight Committee. The district is seeking qualified candidates who will bring a depth of business and/or financial expertise to the committee. Application forms are available through the office of the Superintendent or via the Web site: www.smmusd.org/fiscal/application.pdf

The deadline for applications is Dec.19, with appointments scheduled to be made at the Jan. 15 Board of Education meeting that will be held at SMMUSD District Offices located at 1651 16th St. in Santa Monica.

FOC meetings are currently scheduled once a month in the Testing Room of the District Office at 7 p.m.

Volunteer docents needed

The Malibu Lagoon Museum, commonly known as the Adamson House, has openings for volunteer docents to provide public tours of the historic home, a premier location of the California State Park System.

Six consecutive days of training, held on the site between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., will be provided to prepare volunteers to greet the public, learn the history of this famous site, offer guided tours, work with groups and work in the gift shop. There is a $40 fee for course materials and museum membership.

Malibu Times closed Thursday, Friday

In observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday, The Malibu Times office will be closed Thursday and Friday this week.
