Malibu-based filmmaker and producer Valentina Castellani has achieved her dream of seeing the famed Anthony Quinn mural restored after five years of fundraising.
The 70-foot mural of the actor, painted by artist Eloy Torrez in 1985, on Broadway in downtown Los Angeles, needs a facelift after being sun-damaged for almost 30 years.
The privately funded restoration, costing $150,000, will start in early 2015 and take a year to complete.
Her husband, Quinn’s son Francesco, began the restoration campaign with her, but died suddenly three years ago at the age of 48. The couple lived in Malibu for three years until his death. Valentina’s daughter, Sofia Castellani, 15, is a student at Malibu High School.
