Malibu Boys Basketball

The Malibu High School boys basketball team had a rough time in the Downey Cavalry Chapel Tournament, dropping three of its four games including a pair of nail biters. The tournament results bring the Sharks record to 8-5 on the season.
Game 1: Malibu loses 51-39

The Sharks jumped out to a slow start against the Golden Knights, trailing by eight at the end of the first quarter and by 12 at the half. The halftime deficit proved too much for the Sharks to overcome and the Knights cruised to the victory. Mick Dupre led the Sharks in scoring with 12 points.

In their second tournament game, it was the Sharks who built up an early lead. The Sharks led by five at the end of the first quarter and expanded their lead to eight over the Chino Hills Huskies at the half. But the Huskies came out fired up to start the second half and outscored the Sharks 21-8 in the third quarter. Chino Hills held off the Sharks in the fourth quarter to come away with the 61-56 victory. Four Sharks hit double digits in scoring, led by Alex Beck’s 14 points.

Alex Beck had a tremendous game for the Sharks with a season-high 34 points, but Beck’s efforts went for not as the Ontario Christian Knights pulled out the two-point victory.

After dropping their first three games of the tournament, the Sharks finally vented some frustration, beating the Salesian Mustangs handily, 64-47. Mick Dupre, Phil Johnson and Bennett Sherman all scored in double digits for the Sharks in the winning effort.
