Malibu Stage Repertory is currently presenting “Proof,” a play by David Auburn, through Oct. 4 at the Malibu Stage Company.
Directed by Cate Caplin, cast members of “Proof” include Malibu residents Richard Johnson as “Robert,” Catherine Dao as “Catherine,” Kim Stanwood as “Claire,” and Charlie Babcock as “Hal.”
Dao has appeared in films including Robert Zemeckis’ “Contact” and the television series “Grey’s Anatomy,” among others. Stanwood has multiple film and television credits, while Babcock’s has appeared in the television series “Desperate Housewives.”
Caplin’s work has been seen on television, in films and in theatrical venues worldwide including the Metropolitan Opera House and at the White House. She is also a member of SAG, AFTRA and AEA, and is on the advisory board for Women in Theatre.
“Proof” won the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001 and in 2005 was adapted into a film starring Anthony Hopkins and Gwyneth Paltrow. The play tells the story of a young woman whose mathematician father has gone into mental decline, and one of his former students discovers a groundbreaking mathematical proof he may have written, prompting an intriguing examination of the fine line between genius and madness.
