Miss Malibu Brie Gabrielle and Miss Teen Malibu Micaela Brookman were among 25 philanthropic individuals who pledged to aid local orphans, foster and homeless children this holiday season at a meeting last month. Gabrielle and Brookman pledged to get Pepperdine University and Malibu High School students involved to help the disadvantaged children at the Oct. 12 meeting for the charity Safety Harbor Kids (SHK). SHK is a Malibu nonprofit helping disadvantaged children within 50 miles of Malibu.
The volunteer meeting at Duke’s Malibu restaurant kicked off the charity’s fifth annual Holiday Challenge, which encourages the community to donate toys for children in need. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at Duke’s Malibu, 21150 Pacific Coast Highway.
Safety Harbor Kids will also host its fifth annual Spirit of Goodwill Holiday Party Dec. 11 at Duke’s.
Josh Morgan, General Manager of Duke’s and SHK Goodwill Ambassador Businessman of the Year, also pledged to assist in the effort, along with Malibu City Council founding member and Dolphin Award recipient Missy Zeitsoff.
“The special events we hold around the holidays each year have a tremendous effect on the children we serve,” Safety Harbor Kids president Petrie Alexandra Williams said. “The fact that someone actually cares about them, gives these children hope.”
