Caleb Gomes and Brianna Galeas

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Malibu recently recognized two outstanding members — Caleb Gomes and Brianna Galeas — as its Youths of the Year.

Youth of the Year is a scholarship program that recognizes members’ contributions to the community, as well as their will to overcome personal challenges and obstacles. Winners have a chance to advance to the National Youth of the Year competition in Washington, D.C.

Gomes is a senior at Malibu High School (MHS) where he is a member of the basketball team. He is an active member of the Leaders in Training program and has logged over 170 hours of community service. In the summer of 2014, Gomes went on a service trip to South Africa, where he helped build a Boys and Girls Club in Soweto. He is currently in the process of applying to colleges across the country.

Galeas is a junior at MHS. She has logged over 280 service hours and is the current Leaders in Training president. In the summer of 2015, she traveled to Hawaii to rebuild a Boys and Girls Club that was destroyed by a storm. She is currently fundraising for a college visit trip to the Pacific Northwest with a group of her fellow Boys and Girls Club Members.
