Local band Something Hot is set to take the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday at the World Famous Malibu Inn for its first show in Malibu. The singing trio is comprised of Patrick Pieper, his girlfriend Vera Janischova and her daughter Lenka Janischova-Shockley. The band plays a mixture of original songs and pop/rock covers, mostly from the ’70s.
Pieper works as a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills and performs reconstructive surgery for patients at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center. He began performing free shows for veterans with a small group at the VFW Hall in Redondo Beach in 2009. Not long after, he was directing a 17-piece pop group at the Sepulveda VA “Welcome Home” event for troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan before an audience of more than 500.
In addition to singing in the band, Janischova is also an actress, appearing in films and television shows such as “Gilmore Girls,” “Scrubs,” and an upcoming episode of “Private Practice.” She is also a new addition to The Malibu Times staff.
Janischova-Shockley is a songwriter and vocalist whose song “Beautiful Horizon” is the theme for the film “Madoff: Made Off With America,” which is scheduled for release later this year.
The instrumentalists of Something Hot have toured and recorded with artists such as Janice Ian, Delaney Bramlett, Freddy Fender and Randy Meisner.
Pieper, Janischova and her three daughters just moved into their Carbon Canyon home last month.
Something Hot performs Nov. 26 at the World Famous Malibu Inn, 22969 Pacific Coast Highway, at 8 p.m. The following week, on Dec. 2, the group opens for the Little River Band at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills.
