Longtime Malibu resident Viola Mooers died May 28 in Bellingham, Wash., at the age of 92.

She was born in Paterson, N.J., on Jan. 4, 1918, and moved to California in 1947.

She lived in Malibu for 50 years and was a member of Trancas Riders and Ropers, often bearing the American Flag on her horse, Beauty. In her 40s, she became licensed as a registered nurse, and after working for 10 years she retired and began assisting seniors throughout Southern California. In 1988, she was recognized by the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors as the Outstanding Senior Volunteer of the Year. In 2004 she moved to Bellingham to be closer to her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas Mooers. She is survived by her son Douglas Mooers, daughter Helen Martin, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
