Local earns doctorate

Emily Levin Lodmer, a Malibu resident since 1974, received her doctorate in education from UCLA in June. Her dissertation, titled “In Their Own Words: Factors Leading to Transfer as Identified by Ten Resilient Latino Community College Students,” focused on successful Latino male students transferring from community colleges to four-year universities.

Lodmer is an English as a second language professor at Santa Monica College. She is the wife of Sheldon Lodmer and the mother of Abby, Zack and Irene.
