The Middle School Theatre Department at Malibu High School will present the Disney musical, “Geppetto And Son,” on Feb. 18, 19 and 20 at 7 p.m., and on Feb. 21 at 2 p.m., at the school.
“Geppetto And Son” tells the classic tale of the lonely toymaker Geppetto and his greatest creation, the wooden marionette Pinocchio. Geppetto is overjoyed when the Blue Fairy brings Pinocchio to life, but life with the naughty marionette is not at all what Geppetto had envisioned, and he asks the Blue Fairy to take Pinocchio back. Through a series of adventures and escapes-and with the help of the somewhat sardonic Blue Fairy-Pinocchio and Geppetto learn to love and respect each other, and each gets his greatest wish: Pinocchio becomes a real boy and Geppetto becomes a real dad.
The play combines elements from the Disney animated film, “Pinocchio,” and the Disney musical, “Geppetto,” in a book by David Stern with additional music and lyrics by Steven Schwartz. The Malibu High School production is directed by Brigette Leonard and features a cast of 26 middle school singers, dancers, and actors. More information can be obtained by calling 310.457.6801.
