I am just heartbroken to learn of the shuttering of this fabulous, funky place, PierView Café. This was my favorite respite from the Valley during hot summer days. Just a leisurely drive over Topanga and short hop up the coast and I could sit out on the patio and decompress amid the food – great crab cakes! – the air, the seagulls trying to steal french fries, and the ever-refreshing sights and sounds of ocean waves. And, if you ate there (and probably even if you didn’t), it was one of the very few places with beach access. I always had my beach chair in the car and, after eating, would sit on the sand and read a book for an hour or two. By the time I reluctantly headed back to the Valley, it felt like I had been on vacation and could again face the rest of the world. I’m sure this loss will really hit me hard again come summer, but even now it’s really bad news!
