Best chance for Malibu

I have been reading the letters to the editor regarding measure M from the CAN group and I am confused. Aren’t these the same guys who have been fighting to keep development from occurring on the Chili Cook-Off site since the beginning of time? Has the new govern-ator melted my mind? I really like these guys and have been on the other side of them and beside them on so many issues over the years that I actually know that they don’t want more development. Measure M insures that there will be less development! Yes, there are some caveats and no deal is a perfect deal but yes on M is better than giving the Bay Company what they could get right now under the current zoning law. And, in addition, the last time I checked, even though we have a governator, a property owner can build within the guidelines of their city.

We have to face it, Malibu is going to be developed. However, I want less development and Measure M is our best shot plus we get some pretty good amenities! I want a new emergency facility, I want money for the sorry ballfields, I want a community center and I want that Chili Cook -off green and open, and I want my city to clean up the smelly septic cloud that hovers over the parking lots by the creek (yuck) and I want to boogie board in clean water at Surfrider. My fear is that if this fails, the Bay Company will sell off the properties to individual developers and the city will never be in the position to negotiate city amenities on this scale ever again.
