Questions to be considered

I have lived in Malibu for many years. I am concerned about preserving the beauty of our community and holding the line against increased congestion and unwise development. For these reasons, I am voting “No” on Measure M, which seems to be asking for approval on what is essentially a ‘snow job.’

Anyone who plans to vote for Measure M should first take a few minutes to consider the following questions:

1) Why has the Malibu Bay Company spent years and enormous sums of money toward a development agreement, which could force a sewer system into Malibu’s Civic Center, instead of just building under the current Zoning Ordinance?

The answer is that current Zoning Ordinance constraints, such as wastewater capacity, liquefaction, earthquake hazard, and traffic impacts, don’t allow the magnitude of commercial development you are led to believe that the Malibu Bay Company would be allowed to build. With a development agreement in place, those constraints do not apply, and anything goes. Don’t be fooled.

2) Why hasn’t the City Council brought these facts to light?

Furthermore, the money to build the waste treatment plant on the Chili Cook-Off site, which would then enable development, is going to come from the pockets of Malibu residents. How is this going to happen?
