Power outage darkens Malibu
Lights and traffic signals blinked out in sections of Malibu on Monday at 11:02 a.m., due to a damaged mainline that runs from Las Flores Canyon Road to Big Rock.
Approximately 2,500 customers were affected, said Mark Olson, regional manager for Southern Calif. By 1:15 p.m., all but 255 customers had their power back. The cause of the disruption was due to a short on a high voltage line, a section of which was replaced Monday afternoon.
Pacific Legal Foundation Denounces California Coastal Commission
The Sacramento-based Pacific Legal Foundation is helping property owners fight back against the California Coastal Commission, which the organization believes is making it impossible for home ownership for many families in the state’s coastal region.
The foundation has established a Website, www.coastalhorrors.org, where people can go to report regulatory excesses and unfair treatment by the Coastal Commission or local governments making decisions on their permits to build or make improvements on their coastal properties.
Pepperdine honors heroes with Memorial Garden
The Heroes Garden, built to honor the heroes of Sept. 11, will be open to the public on Sept. 11 after 2 p.m. and will remain open from that day. Clark Cowan, a Seaver alumnus and chairman of Pepperdine’s Crest Advisory Board, provided his expertise in landscaping and upgrading the trees that were planted.
Prescribed fire in Agoura
On Aug. 27, in order to restore native perennial grasslands and coast sage scrub in areas where exotic grasses have taken over, the National Park Service, in cooperation with the Ventura and Los Angeles County Fire Departments and others, will start a controlled fire of 93 acres in Cheeseboro Canyon, Agoura.
Notice of Cancellation
The special meeting of the Malibu Interim Zoning Ordinance Revisions and Code Enforcement Subcommittee, previously scheduled for Aug. 27, is cancelled due to lack of a quorum.
