Pepperdine baseball player Jordan Qsar’s outstanding season received a pair of exclamation points at the end of May.
The redshirt junior was named to the 2018 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper All-Americans first team on May 31. Nine days earlier, the pitcher and outfielder was recognized as the West Coast Conference (WCC) Player of the Year.
Qsar had a standout season in the batter’s box and on the mound. He had a .330 batting average in WCC play and .271 overall. He hit 13 home runs, 12 doubles and 63 RBIs during the Waves’ 55-game season. As a pitcher, Qsar had a 3.44 ERA, seven saves and nine strikeouts in 18.1 innings.
Qsar is Pepperdine’s first conference Player of the Year since Joe Sever in 2012 and first All-American since A.J. Puckett two years ago.
Qsar wasn’t the only Pepperdine player to receive postseason honors.
Junior Jonathan Pendergast was named WCC Pitcher of the Year, Cooper Chandler was named the conference’s Freshman of the Year and head coach Rick Hirtensteiner was named WCC Coach of the Year.
Pendergast and Qsar were named to the All-WCC first team with their teammate, junior Matthew Kanfer. Chandler was named to the conference’s second team with sophomore Quincy McAfee. Brandt Belk joined Chandler on the WCC All-Freshman team.
Kanfer was also named to the WCC All-Academic first team. Waves senior Kiko Garcia, redshirt junior Christian Stoutland, sophomore Aharon Modin and redshirt sophomore Michael Mahony were given honorable mentions.
Pepperdine’s season ended on May 26 in the WCC tournament. The squad was beaten by Gonzaga.Â
The Waves won the WCC regular season title for the first time in four years this season, compiling a 31-24 record overall.
