Tamar Freeman passed away in her Malibu home after receiving comfort from her family, friends and caregivers. Born in Toronto, Canada, Tamar spent her summers at Lake Simcoe. After marrying, she moved to LA to begin a family in the Boyle Heights neighborhood. While raising her family and supporting her husband, Tamar found time to be involved in the Jewish community, as well as create a home with love, tradition, meaning and positive activity.
Over the course of her 88 years of life, Tamar devoted time to her husband, Jerry, of 67 years, three sons, Wayne (Karen), Ken (Marti), Dan (Stacey) and daughter-in-law Dayle and nine grandchildren: Aaron, Jana, Sami, Bryce, Cooper, Mikaela, Alex, Erin and Audrey.
Tamar also spent more than 25 years as a senior living mentor, advocate and educator as a case worker for Jewish Family Services of LA and the Israel Levin Senior Center of Venice.
“Her life was anchored in her tradition, love and study of Torah,” loved ones said. Throughout the last 15 years, her community at the Malibu Jewish Center & Synagogue helped lift her spirits and provided a community family. A service to honor Tamar’s life took place on Sunday, March 30.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the LA Jewish Home for Aged, Israel Levin Senior Center – Jewish Family Services of LA and Malibu Jewish Community & Synagogue.
