Council to vote on new public works director
At its meeting on Monday, the City Council will consider a contract for Bob Brager to be the city’s next public works director.
City Manager Jim Thorsen said on Tuesday that details of the contract were still being worked out.
Brager is the principal engineer for the city of Ventura. Thorsen selected Brager for the job after a recent interview.
“He comes with a great reputation as a team manager and a team leader,” Thorsen said. “He’s got great credentials, as far as having a law degree and an engineering degree.”
Brager did not immediately return a call for comment on Tuesday.
City seeks nominees for environmental award
The Malibu City Council is seeking nominations for the Malibu Legacy Park Environmental Award to recognize and honor those who have made significant contributions to preserve and protect the city’s environmental resources. The deadline for nominations is July 1.
Nominations may be submitted to Malibu City Hall, attention Mary Linden, at 23815 Stuart Ranch Road, or faxed to 456.2760. Following review by Mayor Ken Kearsley and Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Jennings, the awards will be announced at a future council meeting.
Malibu Sav-On becoming CVS
The Sav-On Pharmacy located in Malibu Colony Plaza is in the process of converting to a CVS Pharmacy. The switch is the result of CVS Corp. purchasing 700 freestanding Sav-On locations earlier this month. Malibu Sav-On manager Joey Santamaria said on Tuesday that nothing but the name of the store will change.
Letter carriers haul in food donations
Letter carriers from all over the Westside, including Malibu, collected more than 100,000 pounds of food on their mail routes on May 13 as part of “Stamp Out Hunger Saturday.”
The event was sponsored by the United States Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers. The donated food, which residents left by their mailboxes, was brought to the Westside Food Bank and distributed to 65 local social service agencies.
