Roselyn Harriet Richman-Jason died after a 20-year battle with breast cancer at her Malibu home April 1. She was 68.
Richman-Jason, also known as Roz, was born on Nov. 2, 1942 in New York City to Max and Eve Richman. She attended the Bronx High School of Science before graduating from Brooklyn College. She moved on to become one of a handful of women in her class to receive a degree from State University New York Downstate Medical Center.
Richman-Jason completed internships and residencies in New York and Boston before moving to California in 1973, where she worked as the head of the radiology department at John Wesley County Hospital in Los Angeles. She then worked for a short time at Encino Hospital before taking a position at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, where she remained until her retirement in 2007.
Richman-Jason worked as a radiologist specializing in mammography. She delivered numerous life-saving diagnoses and aided many women in the emotional challenges of breast cancer.
Richman-Jason enjoyed spending time with her family and was interested in books, travel and food. She volunteered her time to local public schools and youth sports, serving as a reading mentor at Westminster Avenue Elementary School in Venice after her retirement. She was an active member of her community, belonging to a “Soup Sisters” group, a book club, the Havurah group and Santa Monica College art and museum classes.
Richman-Jason is remembered as a “beloved wife, mother, sister, friend and doctor whose compassion for others knew no bounds.”
Richman-Jason is survived by her husband of 30 years Mark Jason, her son Will Jason of San Rafael, her brother Paul Richman of Chevy Chase, Md. and many extended relatives.
A private ceremony will take place.
