Pepperdine men’s basketball is looking ahead to some home games this week after a 73-60 loss at Portland rounded out a rocky month on the road for the Waves.
Pepperdine hoops, 4-10, suffered a season-low 30.6 percent shooting during the Saturday, Dec. 31 game, to Portland’s 50 percent.
A bright spot for the Waves was early scoring by talented freshmen — the first 11 points scored for Pepperdine came from freshmen; 16 of 23 first-half points were scored by the young players.
Senior guard Lamond Murray Jr. ended the game the point leader, bringing in 14 points for the Waves, followed by senior forward Chris Reyes with 12 and senior guard Jeremy Major with 10.
The loss was one in a long series after injuries took key players out of the Pepperdine hoops lineup. Senior point guard Amadi Udenyi was injured at the end of November and will be out for the remainder of the season; the team has not won a game since he tore his Achilles tendon after Thanksgiving. Sophomore forward Kameron Edwards, another expected starter, has been out since fracturing his jaw in the preseason.
The Waves next face Loyola Marymount at home on Thursday, Jan. 5 for the Wells Fargo PCH Cup.
